The Hunslet Rugby Foundation have recently been working with pupils and staff from the Elland Academy and the West Yorkshire Police
What started out as just a couple of hours kicking a ball around one half term quickly turned into a regular thing with young people aged between 12 and 16 years old from the Elland Academy visiting the South Leeds Stadium once a week for 4 weeks for their PE lesson and to learn a little about Rugby League, with staff from the school and the West Yorkshire Police on hand to join in the pupils from the academy soon began to pick up more than just rugby skills such as team work, problem solving and respect. The program was a great success in that it encouraged these young people to want to come to school to do PE as well as become more active out of school.
Next week we are hosting a 2 day camp for the Elland Academy at the South Leeds Stadium which will include trying a variety of different sports, and team building exercises. We are also hopeful to make our work with them into a more permanent thing in the new academic year.
